Abstract
The need to control tobacco is probably the most important health intervention. Tobacco dependence is a recognized life-destroying disease. It is therefore very important that all health care professionals are educated and feel competent as role models to enable the treatment of tobacco dependence which is highly cost effective, to be a successful medical intervention. Thus the attitudes, knowledge and preparedness of health professionals in Ireland are highly relevant and must embrace all health professionals.
